Alexander Scriabin’s symphonic poem ‘Prometheus, The Poem of Fire’ celebrates synesthesia and cosmic unity. Devised by San Francisco Symphony Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen, pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and Cartier in-house perfumer Mathilde Laurent, the San Francisco Symphony and Cartier present a multisensory production of ‘Prometheus’. This collaborative world premiere combines dynamic musical and light performance with olfactory curation, subsuming audiences in Scriabin’s creative vision more than a century after the piece of total art was composed.

In all Scheffer’s works related to Cage, he used the old Chinese method of chance operations based on the Yi Jing – as often used by Cage himself in his compositions. Instead of using chance operations, Scheffer edited the film in the usual way that is based on choice. | |

At the time, Mozart was busy working on his operas La clemenza di Tito and The Magic Flute. By the time he started on the Requiem, in the fall of that same year, his health was seriously declining. Mozart passed away in December 1791, leaving the Requiem uncompleted. His pupil Franz Xaver Süssmayr completed Mozart’s swan song in the form known today, based on Mozart’s sketches and possibly verbal instructions. Moreover, it demonstrates the brilliant improvisational and technical abilities of Gonzalo Rubalcaba, who has become one of our present-day jazz legends. | |

He seeks help of the travelling quack Dr. Dulcamara, from whom he purchases a bottle of magic elixir. Directed by Frederic Wake-Walker, this 2021 production is unique as it features the complete, original score as reconstructed by Alberto Zedda based on Donizetti’s autographs. In addition, the orchestra plays on historical instruments to recreate the sound of Donizetti’s orchestra. Among the soloists are Caterina Sala (Adina), Javier Camarena (Nemorino), Florian Sempey (Belcore), Roberto Frontali (Dulcamara), Anaïs Mejías (Giannetta), and Manuel Ferreira (Master of ceremonies). Co-led by Glaswegian pianist-composer-producer Marco Cafolla and saxophonist Konrad Wiszniewski, the group offers a fresh and energetic interpretation of spiritual jazz. Mama Terra’s debut album ‘The Summoned’, featuring the ethereal vocals of Rachel Lightbody, “bursts with zeal and vigour”, according to MOJO.
