Due to COVID-19, only half of the scheduled performances of the 2021 edition were actually recorded in Bremen. Among the performing artists is Israeli drummer and composer Guy Salamon. He leads the award-winning, eight-piece Guy Salamon Group, whose members originate from countries around the world, such as Israel, The Netherlands, Denmark, Scotland, South Korea, Catalonia, and Portugal. Salamon's music is full of surprises, creative narratives, energy, humor, and sincerity. The players are Guy Salamon (drums), Alistair Payne (trumpet), José Soares (alto saxophone), Hristo Goleminov (tenor saxophone), Teis Semey (guitar), Youngwoo Lee (piano), and Brodie Jarvie (double bass). | |

The Newport Jazz Festival, first established in the North-American town of Newport, Rhode Island in the summer of 1954, has now grown to become one of the largest multi-day celebrations of jazz worldwide. In October 1972, an outstanding lineup played shoulder-to-shoulder at the 7th Newport Jazz Festival held in Rotterdam's then-recently built concert venue De Doelen. These four masterful groups consisted of alto saxophonist "Cannonball" Adderley and his quintet (Nat Adderley on cornet, George Duke on keyboards, Walter Booker on bass, and Roy McCurdy on drums), Hammond organist Jimmy Smith and his band (Art Farmer on flugelhorn, Illinois Jacquet on tenor saxophone, Kenny Burrell on guitar, Clark Terry on trumpet, and Roy Haynes on drums), pianist Dave Brubeck and his trio (Jack Six on bass, Alan Dawson on drums) with accompaniment from Paul Desmond on alto saxophone and Gerry Mulligan on baritone saxophone, and bassist Charles Mingus and his group (Joe Gardner on trumpet, Hamiet Bluiett on baritone saxophone, John Foster on piano, Roy Brooks on drums) with the great high-note trumpeter Cat Anderson as a guest. | |

Leonidas Kavakos rose to fame in 1985, when he became the youngest musician to ever win the first price of the prestigious Sibelius Competition. With Yuja Wang, an accomplished artist at young age herself, he forms a masterful duo of chamber music interpretation. The programme features Brahm's Sonata for Piano and Violin, No. 1 in G major, Op. 78, also known as the "Regensonate," Sonata for Piano and Violin, No. 2 in A major, Op. 100, the "Thuner Sonata," a portrait of the Swiss lake of Thun's peaceful scenery. The story of Fleetwood Mac is one of two halves. The first half began within the British blues scene of the late 1960s, where the band’s founder, Peter Green, honed his talent. Peter Green asked fellow Bluesbreakers John McVie and Mick Fleetwood to form a new band after they successfully collaborated in the studio on an instrumental with Jeremy Spencer and Bob Brunning completing the line-up. They took on the new name of Fleetwood Mac. The band had success in the UK with their first two albums and in 1968, with the addition of guitarist, Danny Kirwan, they finally achieved their first number one single, Albatross. However, Fleetwood Mac’s third album, They Play On, would be Peter Green’s last with the band, Without Peter Green, Danny Kirwan would take on the lead role within the group In 1970, Christine McVie, the wife of John McVie was yet another addition, after having provided backing vocals and album artwork for the new line-up.
Yet more changes came to the band’s line-up with Kirwan sadly having to leave due to problems with alcoholism, Songwriter Bob Welch replaced him, but then departed shortly after. Fleetwood Mac with the line-up of Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and John and Christine McVie entered its second chapter. In 1975 they released what would ironically be their second self-titled album, which would top the US Billboard chart and featured the hit single Rhiannon, written by Stevie Nicks But as the album reached number one in the US and began shifting units of over five million, the band’s personal lives were becoming strained. In 1977 the band released Rumours.
The lyrics of the songs written by each member of the band exposed the personal turmoil that existed within the group Rumours has, to date, sold over 45 million copies worldwide, making it one of the biggest selling albums of all time. Influenced by new wave and punk, Buckingham convinced the band to go for a more experimental approach for the highly-anticipated follow-up album, Tusk. In 1959, Jacques Loussier hit upon the idea that was to make his international reputation, by combining his interest in jazz with his love of J.S. Bach. Only a pianist with such an exceptional classical technique and deft improvisatory skill could have nurtured such a vision. He founded the Play Bach Trio, which used Bach's compositions as the basis for jazz improvisation. The trio immediately caught the public imagination. In their live appearances, tours and concerts, plus a succession of recordings built on the cornerstone of four albums made between 1960 and 1963, Loussier's group achieved the breakthrough to popular commercial success enjoyed by only a select few jazz musicians. In fifteen years, the trio sold over six million albums! On July 28th 2004, the day of Bach's 254th anniversary of death, the Jacques Loussier Trio perform a special concert at the famous St. Thomas Church of Leipzig - the city where Bach composed many of his most famous works. | |

Kožená’s musical range seems expandable to infinity: whether adopting Cole Porter or Duparc, Mahler or Martinu, her mezzo-soprano voice works wonders. However, within the richness of her career, baroque music remains a favourite repertoire, as proven once more by this recital in the Church of Verbier filmed in the summer of 2018. It demonstrates a remarkable simplicity: alternation of vocal and short sparkling instrumental works. The programme illustrates “blindness in love”, a theme which is best embodied by the magnificent Combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda. Magdalena Kožená here changes the Church into a theater hall: on a sleekly decorated stage, with a moving naivety, the singer seizes a few accessories to improvise the narrative and the medieval legend is revived by her hallucinated expression. An extremely beautiful moment. | |

The work premiered on April 3, 1869 in Copenhagen, Denmark, with Edmund Neupert as the soloist, and was received enthusiastically. The Norwegian premiere followed a few months later. The second part of the concert is features music by Igor Stravinsky. On the program is music composed for the ballet 'Jeu de cartes' (1937) and the Firebird Suite, No. 2 (1919). 'Jeu de cartes' is one of Stravinsky's neo-classical works and consists of three parts ('deals'). The Firebird Suite, No. 2 is based on the music from the ballet of the same name, which was written for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes and premiered in Paris in 1910. | |
