2017 is the 10th anniversary of Joe Zawinul's death, the high priest of jazz keyboardists. A fitting and powerful tribute to him comes from saxophonist Emile Parisien and partner in crime Vincent Peirani on the accordion. The two Frenchmen have brought their fellow Austrian 'groove' explorers on board: Paco Sery and Linley Marthe, respectively drummer and bassist in the Zawinul Syndicate (his last group) and West Indian percussionist Mino Cinelu who performed on the last albums for the game-changing Weather Report. The idea behind the File Under Zawinul project came from saxophonist Emile Parisien's time with the Syndicate, a band formed in tribute to the Viennese pianist. Parisien met the vibrant guitarist Manu Codjia and sound architect Tony Paeleman on his Fender Rhodes at the Syndicate who are both to join File Under Zawinul. The Moroccan singer and percussionist Aziz Samahoui who performed with Joe for over 10 years will also be part of the international all-star Zawinul line-up.

Jowee Omicil - a multi-instrumentalist who is like no one else - was born in Montreal in 1977 between the Haitian and Quebec communities. After living within a rich New York musical fabric, he splits his life between Miami and Paris. Fed by the playing of his masters - John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter or Kenny Garrett - his nomad jazz mixing Creole roots to Hip-Hop, gospel, soul and world folklores renews itself according to his encounters. Regarding 'Let's Bash', his new project, it is both a war cry and a love declaration that hide a great act of faith: 'I want jazz to become popular again'!
