| 07:40 | | Tony Allen 'Black Voices' in Luxembourg
As part of the 'Printemps Musical' festival, the great Nigerian drummer Tony Allen played at the 'Atelier' in Luxemburg on Friday 1 April 2011
Tony Allen has long been acknowledged as the most original drummer on the planet, and is one of the most influential musicians in Africa, drawing his inspiration from highlife, soul-funk, jazz and traditional Nigerian rhythms. With Fêla Kuti and the Africa 70's ensemble, with whom he played for fifteen years, he invented Afrobeat, a style characterized by its hypnotic rhythms, based on a limited selection of chords repeated in a loop by the guitars and keyboards, with powerful and melodious riffs by the brass section, combined with an awareness of the social, political and urban context of its day. This style has become a major force in Africa and a reference for the rest of the world. | |
